Hitoyo kanjo
One-night Imperial Servant-girls. A rite held on February 20 at Sumiyoshi Shrine in Nishi-Yodogawa Ward, Osaka City, Osaka Prefecture. Seven girls, aged between ten and thirteen are selected from the families of the shrine's worshippers, and become imperial servants. They make food offerings to the deities (shinsen), place these in a bucket and proceed to the shrine where they make offerings to the god for one night. It ancient times it is said to have been a ceremony human sacrifice.
